To Wet? To Cold? To Hot?

Make it a Great Inside Day!

A rainy day, cold day, or really hot day as a parent can often be frustrating especially after many days in a row. You may have had big plans for the day or maybe your kids are just driving you bonkers beause they can no longer handle being inside. Here are some great ideas to get your kiddos moving and doing something out of the ordinary! We hope they help both kids and parents.

How can you make someone's day?

Could you make a special treat or craft and bring it to someone who would enjoy it?

Possibly Places to Deliever your Kindness:

  • Pastor/Priest or Clergy

  • Law Enforcement (Police or Fire Station, EMT, etc.)

  • Office Building

  • Homebound

  • Widow or Widower

  • Nursing Home

  • Ronald McDonald House

Pay it Forward

Fun places to go to the drive through or go to and pay for someones order.

  • Dunkin Donuts

  • Coffee Shops

  • Restaraunts (Buy a Table Dessert)

  • Fast Food Restaraunts (Chick-fil-A, Panera, McDonalds, etc. Pick your favorite!)

Acts of Kindness

Check out a New Library or Find a Library that has Story Time.

  • Often times libraries will have a kids corner with some type of kids chairs and toys along with kid appropriate books!

Visit a Book Store

Barnes & Noble, Books-A-Million, Local Bookstore

  • Set limits before entering. Set a $$ amount that your child can spend, encourage them to find a certain type of book, bargain books, or game that everyone in the family can enjoy, or let them know that you will just be reading the books but not purchasing today.

  • While you are at the book store, make it fun!  Let kiddos sit on the adult comfy chairs or find a special spot where you can all read. Just remind them of propper manners.

Book Sort

  • Spend part of your day going through your books.

  • Find and read your favorites and think about what to do with books your family has outgrown. Could you donate them to someoneone who would enjoy them? Do you have a local neighborhood library that could use them? What else could you do?

  • *Don't forget, after sorting, you must put books back!  Make special place for them. Decorate a book bin, or create a book box!

This activity is based off the book Yes Day  By: Amy Krouse Rosenthal.  But you do not need the book to do the activity! Your kids will love the activity either way.

Sit down and explain to your children that you are going to have a YES DAY!  This means that they may ask to do anything they want and you will say yes.  The key to this is explaining to them they have to be realistic, but they really are not going to have a hard time coming up with ideas.

Now as a parent I encourage you to say yes to the things we normally say no to...cookie before breakfast YES! Hamburger from one fast food drivethru and French fries from another? YES!! Another Popsicle? YES!!

The only limitation you may need to set is $$ - if your children are likeyly to ask to go on a shopping spree, I would set that boundry before you get started.

Possible ideas to get your kids started

  • build a fort and watch a movie

  • go to an ice cream shop

  • wear your swim suits and play basket ball

  • Let them be creative!

TIPS FOR PARENTS

  • Always respond in a overly excited "YES!"

  • Don't start until after you've had 2 cups of coffee.

  • Have the correct mindset, it will be more enjoyable if the parents solely focus on the fun of the day and not try to get any chores of work done.

This day might be a bit harder for you than for your children, but you will be amazed at some of the things they ask for. Kids can be so simple and yet so fun. Remember it is only a day...but a lifetime of memories and your kids are going to love it!

NOW GO SAY YES!
