Little Explorers

Every kid loves to look for things! Why not add even more excitement to finding new "treasures."

We started our morning play date as normal singing our Good Morning Song and reading a book. Today's book was "A Hunting We Will Go" by: Rozanne Lonczak Williams & Seoyoung Chung. Then we headed over to the craft table.

Our craft was so easy but so much fun. Each child made a pair of binoculars. Before our friends arrived at our house I taped 2 empty toilet paper tubes together. I used one piece of masking tape and taped right down the center. This made the binoculars stable but left lots of rooms for the kids to decorate their binoculars and make them their own. After we were finished, the kiddos roamed the house and yard wearing their new binoculars and searching for treasure. I sent home an envelope with each mom that had treasure hunt cards in them. There were treasures that kids could find in every house or every outdoor area. The envelope could be a great game to do with your child and very easy to add to it when you want.

I also spray painted wipe containers for parents in a sparkly gold so that their toddlers had a special treasure box to take home with them! Who knew that something that we have so many of laying around the house could provide so much fun entertainment.

This was such a quick morning but lots of fun. Don't forget to look below for more treasure hunt ideas!

Treasure Adventures

Dress Up

Now that your child has their own binoculars, why not find a hat and something fun to wear while going on adventures to look for more treasures? Each hunt could have different theme. Be creative and have fun.

Hunt Away

There are many things you can make into a treasure hunt, we often times just don't think of it. Find small items that your child likes and bury them in the following things:

1. Play dough

2. Sand Box

3. Box filled with bubble wrap or packing peanuts

4. Ice Block - and melt or chop away the ice (can add kool aide to make this more colorful)

4. Colors - only finding things that are a certain color

5. Foam (mix or blend 1/3 cup distilled water, 1/3 cup dawn dish soap, 1 Tbsp corn starch, few squirts of liquid water color if you so desire)
